TREVOR ABRAMSON, FAIA, NCARB
Design Principal
In a career spanning over two decades, South African born Trevor Abramson has concentrated on design as the centerpiece of his work, which has spread from Southern California to Colorado, Wyoming and Canada. His multi-faceted practice, initially focusing on single-family residences, now encompasses ecclesiastical commissions, educational facilities and varied commercial buildings. Abramson’s 150+ projects promote the art of the aesthetic of the profession and evoke an emotional, spiritual and peaceful response from clients, critics and passersby. In his design, Mr. Abramson juxtaposes materials and light to modulate surfaces and employs subtle stripped down forms and shapes to allow simplicity of mass and its materials to govern. Admitting to the modernist appellation, he eschews a strict intellectual doctrine in favor of an intuitive search for architectural probity. He also shows this truthfulness with colleagues in writings and other expositions.
Mr. Abramson’s distinguished body of work has not gone unnoticed and has clearly advanced the profession. Among the 20 architectural awards he has received, was the national AIA honor design award for the First Presbyterian Church of Encino, California. He has been published extensively in international, national and leading journals (Architectural Review, Architectural Digest, Casaviva, Architectural Record, Interior Design...) and the daily media (Los Angeles Times). His work had also been featured in several ecclesiastical magazines from Presbyterian Today to Christianity Today. He co-authored a book on the Kohn Pederson Fox firm. Eight different Abramson buildings have been featured on prestigious Los Angeles-area and six consecutive AIA Los Angeles Chapter home tours. His creative architecture stands proudly in the city, which is his unique way of giving back to the community.
Prior to starting his own architecture practice, he was a project designer in the office of Welton Becket & Associates in Los Angeles. He was responsible for the design of the winning entry to the competition for the proposed “Hall of Evolving Life” at the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum. He also worked for John Burgee Architects with Phillip Johnson in New York as a project designer.
Mr. Abramson studied at Columbia University in New York where he received a Master’s degree, and he received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California where he graduated summa cum laude. At USC he received the Quincy Jones Memorial Award for Design Excellence.
